The right starting class is not simply the class with the highest belt ranks. For a child, age, attention, comfort in a group, and previous experience all matter. At MOD, Little Dragons serves ages 4–6, while the children's youth program serves ages 7–12. The trial-booking label Beginners (Ages 7+) describes the starting option for older beginners.

What Little Dragons emphasizes

The children's program describes coordination and listening skills practiced through games. For a younger child, following an instruction, waiting for a turn, and moving with control are meaningful tasks. Parents can watch for whether the child engages with the instructor rather than judging the height or strength of a kick.

A child does not need to be perfectly attentive before trying a class. A trial gives both the family and the instructor a chance to see how the child responds to the setting.

What changes in youth training

For ages 7–12, MOD's program introduces traditional taekwondo forms, controlled sparring, and anti-bully self-defense. These are program components, not a promise that every activity happens during the first visit. Ask the instructor how new students are introduced to partner work and what is appropriate for your child's starting point.

Older does not automatically mean experienced. A seven-year-old starting from scratch still needs clear explanations and manageable steps.

How to make the choice

Start with the published age group, then discuss any questions with the team. Mention prior training, an upcoming birthday near the age boundary, or concerns about a busy classroom. Do not book an advanced session just because a child is athletic in another sport.

Use the free-trial page to select your dojang and age-appropriate option. After the visit, ask which regular class the instructor recommends. That conversation is more useful than trying to decide from belt colors alone.
