Preparing for a Color Belt Test: A Student and Parent Checklist
Check eligibility, assigned material, current-rank registration, uniform requirements, and event details without inventing a universal testing timeline.

Preparing for a color belt test should start with your instructor's guidance, not a countdown copied from another school. Rank requirements and readiness are specific to the program. Ask what material applies to you and whether you have been cleared for the particular test before registering.
Confirm what you are preparing
Ask which forms, techniques, and other material you should review. Write down the instructor's corrections while they are fresh. If you are unsure about a movement, get clarification in class instead of replacing it with an unrelated online example.
Practice the assigned work at an appropriate pace and do not turn the final days into an unsupervised contact-training session.
Read the event details carefully
For MOD's 188th Color Belt Promotion Test, the event page lists Saturday, November 21, 2026 at North Ogden Dojang, 1966 North 400 East St, Ogden, UT 84414. It also states that a complete uniform is required and sparring gear is required for Yellow belts and up.
Use the latest published schedule and flyer for your session rather than assuming all belt groups test together. Ask the team if the assigned group is unclear.
Register using the correct rank
The promotion-test instructions say to register using your current rank/belt, not the belt you are testing for. Fees vary by belt rank. Registration and payment are handled through the linked external registration page; this blog does not collect either.
Those instructions apply to that event. Check future test announcements individually rather than assuming their details never change.
Keep the day focused
Prepare the uniform and required gear beforehand, check the location and session, and bring questions to the instructor before test day. Passing is not guaranteed by registration or by a practice checklist.
Review the promotion-test page for the current announcement. New families can explore MOD's programs and free-trial options before thinking about testing.
