Korean sword practice in MOD Taekwondo's Kummooyeh program

Kummooyeh is a Korean martial arts practice that MOD describes through swordsmanship, archery, and empty-hand techniques. It is a separate special program, not simply another name for taekwondo. If the sword and bow interest you, start by learning what the local class offers and how beginners are introduced.

Understand the program's emphasis

MOD's Kummooyeh page emphasizes precision, form, and focus. Sword and archery practice involve different equipment and movement tasks from a regular taekwondo class, so prior taekwondo experience should not be treated as automatic competence with training tools.

The USA Kummooyeh Federation describes broader aspects of the art, including forms, sparring, cutting, and sword dance. That general description does not establish which activities occur in every MOD beginner session. Ask the local instructor about the actual starting curriculum.

Where MOD lists the program

Kummooyeh is listed at Harrisville, North Ogden, and South Ogden in MOD's program directory. Harrisville and North Ogden have dedicated Kummooyeh trial calendars on the trial page. For a first visit at South Ogden, contact the team about the appropriate booking arrangement.

Always confirm the current class time and available session before making the trip. A program listing and an open reservation are different things.

What to ask before class

  • Which activities are introduced to beginners?
  • What training equipment is used and provided?
  • Are there equipment purchases to make later?
  • What clothing and preparation does this particular session require?
  • Which safety directions should a new student know?

Do not buy a sword or bow in advance based on an online description. Equipment suitability belongs in a conversation with the instructor.

Explore Kummooyeh at MOD and the trial options to find the appropriate next step. The first goal is understanding the practice, not recreating a dramatic technique at home.
